Highlander (Dynamite Comics)
Let me start by saying that when it comes to this franchise I am one biased man. This franchise has been my number one since the original movie came out. I don’t recall letting forth a ‘barbaric yalp’ quite like the one I voiced when I first read this was coming to my favorite medium. Which is comics incase I needed to answer that one. So there will always be a part of me that has a geekgasm with every issue, however that is not the part of the forebrain in charge of my comic collecting, thank goodness.
The writing left me feeling kinda flat. Forced and/or cliché are both descriptors in my mind I could use to describe the story the first four issues. Some background was given to Connor but only in so far as it relates to his association with other characters used in the storyline, none of which, with one exception, I recall from the first movie. The artwork is solid but not something I would search out the book to get. I’ve seen Buccellato’s colors before and I don’t think that’s my issue, I don’t remember Moder’s linework feeling this flat before either. Perhaps to me the two don’t work together.
